Problem Solving
Rubber
Samples of the nitrile rubber used for the Space Shuttle O-rings were placed in compression fixtures and repeatedly heated to launch temperatures followed by a quench in salt water.
The following examples illustrate some of our contributions to this business sector:
- Durometer tests were performed on 13 rubber o-ring/lip seals to assure compliance with customer specifications.
- Samples of the nitrile rubber used for the Space Shuttle O-rings were placed in compression fixtures and repeatedly heated to launch temperatures followed by a quench in salt water. Durometer hardness was determined after 1, 5, 10, and 20 cycles to determine the life of the rubber.
- The ozone test cabinet was used to determine the response of a new paint system to 0.5 PPM levels of ozone. Panels were exposed, evaluated in comparison to a new, unexposed panel, and returned to the client.
The above examples are only a sample of our work in this area. We would be pleased to provide any additional information you may require. We also invite you to review examples on our website of work that we have performed in support of other business sectors.
