Blast Testing
Touchstone Research Laboratory has an off-site, several hundred acre test range where blast testing, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) simulated testing, Explosively Formed Projectiles (EFP), and other blast related testing can be performed.
Touchstone can engineer custom blast testing on new armor materials, blast mitigation materials, and other custom structures. For example, charges of five to ten pounds of dynamite or C4 can be detonated for blast testing. Touchstone has performed numerous blast tests in support of defense contractors and the U.S. Government’s efforts to develop lighter weight armor and blast resistant materials.
Instrumentation / Data Collection
Using mobile data collection equipment, we can instrument blast tests for over-pressure, strain, and temperature measurements.
High-speed videography, normal-speed videography, and still photography are used to document your blast tests.
Analysis
After the blast test, deflection measurements of witness plates with a Faro Arm laser tracking device are also available.
If desired, our microscopy laboratory can perform a failure analysis of the tested materials. Complete and detailed scientific reports are also generated for blast testing customers.
